Replacing a Water Heater in Phoenix

There are two ways this call usually starts. Either the old unit finally let go and there's water on the garage floor, or it's been getting worse for a while and you'd rather replace it on your schedule than at midnight. Both are fine. We can usually install the same day or next day, and if the old one is leaking we'll shut it down and cap it so you're not adding water damage to the bill.

We install every major brand. We'll recommend based on your household size, your gas or electric supply, the space the unit sits in, and what you want to spend. We're not tied to one manufacturer.

What's Included in Our Installation

  • Haul-away and disposal of the old unit
  • New unit set, leveled and strapped per Arizona code
  • New supply lines, shut-off valve and flex connectors
  • New T&P relief valve with a discharge line run to a safe location
  • Drain pan where the unit is inside or above living space
  • Gas: new sediment trap and leak test. Electric: connection checked and breaker verified.
  • Venting inspected and corrected if needed
  • Expansion tank when your home has a pressure regulator or backflow device (most newer Phoenix homes do)
  • Permit pulled when the job requires it
  • Full fill, purge and test before we leave

Choosing the Right Size and Type

A 40-gallon tank handles a household of one to three people. A 50-gallon is the workhorse for families of four or five. Beyond that, or if you have a large soaking tub, we'll talk about a 75-gallon or a tankless. Gas heats faster and costs less to run; electric is simpler where there's no gas line. If you're weighing tankless, our tankless page covers the honest tradeoffs.

Why Phoenix Heaters Fail Early, and What We Do About It

Hard water is the main culprit. Scale builds on the tank bottom and on elements, making the unit work harder and fail sooner. When we install, we set the temperature correctly, install a full-port drain valve so annual flushing is actually easy, and check your home's water pressure. If it's above 80 psi, we'll tell you, because high pressure shortens the life of every appliance in the house. If you're interested in a softener, we can install one at the same time and the heater will thank you for it.

Warranty

Six years from the manufacturer on the tank and parts. One year from us on the installation labor. If something's wrong with the install, we come back and make it right.

Questions We Get Asked

How long does installation take?

A like-for-like replacement is about two to three hours. Relocations, gas line changes or tankless conversions take longer, and we'll tell you up front.

Do I need a permit?

Phoenix and most Valley cities require one for a water heater replacement. We pull it when it's required and build it into the quote.

Can you install a unit I bought myself?

Yes. We'll check that it's the right size and fuel type first, and the labor warranty still applies. The manufacturer warranty on a customer-supplied unit is between you and the retailer.

What do you do with the old one?

We haul it off and recycle it. That's included.

Should I go tankless?

For some households, absolutely. For others it's not worth the upfront cost. Read our tankless page or ask; we'll give you a straight answer for your house.
